Looking For Counselling in West Kelowna?

Reaching out to a counsellor can feel like a big step, especially when you are not sure what to say or where to begin. NEXT Clinic offers counselling in West Kelowna with Melissa Selka, a Registered Clinical Counsellor who works with youth, young adults, and adults.

Sessions take place online by video, so you can meet from home or another private space. Melissa's style is warm, curious, and respectful. You set the pace, and you do not need to have anything figured out before your first conversation.

What Is Virtual Counselling?

Counselling is a series of conversations with a trained professional who listens and asks thoughtful questions. Together you make sense of what you are going through. It gives you room to talk about your thoughts, feelings, and relationships without being judged.

At NEXT Clinic, sessions happen by telehealth only. You join a video session from your phone, tablet, or computer, and Melissa meets you there. Many people find it easier to open up from a familiar place, and it saves the drive and the waiting room.

This is a different kind of care from medical treatment. It does not replace your doctor, and Melissa can point you toward other supports when they would help.

Who Can Benefit From Counselling?

Counselling in West Kelowna suits people at many ages and stages. Melissa works with youth, young adults, and adults, and her specialty is youth.

Youth and teens

Growing up brings pressure from school, friends, family, and social media. Youth counselling gives a young person a space of their own to talk with someone who is not a parent or a teacher.

Young adults

Leaving home, starting post-secondary or a first job, and building new relationships are all big changes. Sessions can help you sort through choices and find your footing.

Adults in a hard season

Life transitions, personal challenges, and ongoing stress can wear on anyone. You can book for yourself at any point, without waiting for things to reach a breaking point.

This is not an emergency service. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911. In Canada, you can also call or text 9-8-8 at any hour to reach the Suicide Crisis Helpline.

Signs You May Benefit From Counselling

You may notice one or more of these:

  • Worry or low mood that lingers for weeks instead of passing
  • A teen who has pulled away, or whose sleep, school, or friendships have shifted
  • Feeling stuck after a breakup, a move, a loss, or a change at work or school
  • Snapping at people you care about
  • Crying more easily than usual
  • Trying to push through alone and still feeling weighed down
  • Thoughts that keep circling when you try to rest at night

These experiences are common, and they do not mean something is wrong with you. Sudden or severe changes, or physical symptoms you are unsure about, are worth checking with your doctor as well.

How Counselling Can Help

It may help you understand your feelings, build self-awareness, and find practical ways to move forward. Many people find that simply being heard changes how heavy things feel.

Melissa works alongside you to understand your experiences and identify next steps that suit your life. Some sessions focus on a specific worry. Others make room for a bigger conversation about who you are and what you want. Everyone's experience differs, and no outcome can be promised.

Common Questions Before You Book

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want a space to talk, a first session is a reasonable place to start. Your first session also gives you a chance to see whether the fit feels right.
Find a private space, check your device and connection, and think about what you would like to talk about. You do not need to prepare anything else.
Parents and guardians can contact the clinic with questions before booking for a young person. It can also help to talk with your teen about what they would like from the sessions.
Sessions are confidential, and Melissa will explain how confidentiality works, including its limits, before you begin.
It varies from person to person. Some people come for a short stretch around a specific concern, and others prefer ongoing support.
It may help with the emotional side of an accident, such as worry, changes in sleep, or nervousness about driving. Contact the clinic to ask about ICBC availability before you book.
That is very common. Melissa's approach is warm and unhurried, and you decide what to share and when.
